PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Hosting the Education Review Office (ERO) and Education Review and Improvement Network (ERIN) members from Australia

Our school recently had the honour of hosting officials from the Education Review Office (ERO) alongside a group of Australian educators. Their visit offered an invaluable opportunity to showcase our dedication to high-quality education. The visiting teams highlighted the strengths they observed in our school community, applauding our commitment to excellence across various areas.

Exceptional Teaching and Learning

The visiting teams were quick to commend the quality of teaching and learning observed in our classrooms. They noted our teachers’ creativity, adaptability, and commitment to engaging students through active learning approaches that cater to individual needs. One Australian visitor remarked, “The individualised and targeted teaching we witnessed was excellent.”

Outstanding Student Achievement

The visitors praised our students’ achievements, noting high performance in core subjects like literacy and mathematics. They recognised our comprehensive assessment practices, which support students in setting meaningful goals. “Students are aware of where they are at in the learning and where to next.”

Commitment to Growth and Development

Our visitors also admired our school’s focus on continuous growth, both for students and teachers. The emphasis on professional development equips educators to constantly refine their skills, directly benefiting students. A great deal of discussion took place around the clear commitment to professional growth and development.

Positive, Supportive School Culture

The visiting teams were impressed by our school’s positive and supportive environment. They observed a culture of mutual respect between students and staff, underpinned by policies and programs that ensure students feel safe and valued. “The level of care here is extraordinary,” commented one official. This nurturing atmosphere is vital for both academic and personal growth.

The positive feedback from ERO and the Australian educators underscores our school’s commitment to providing an exceptional learning environment. Their praise serves as a motivation to continue evolving, ensuring that we deliver the best education possible for our students. Hosting these educational leaders was a privilege, inspiring us to sustain and build upon the excellence they observed. In particular, they were extremely complimentary of our young people who toured them around the school and most of all our Year 8 Kapahaka students who performed with exceptional pride and mana.

I remarked to the staff after this visit that I felt like a proud father. We have a very special school here, one that we can all be very proud of.

CZ BASKETBALL

CZ Girls basketball topped their pool, winning 12- 4, 14-8 and 14-10. They met Ponsonby in the quarters, who beat us last year but this year we won 12-6.

Semi's we played against Waikowhai, we were expecting this game to be tough but we managed to gain the lead, finishing 23-16. For the finals, we played against Marist. It was point-for-point and a tense game for the bench. We had a slight edge and finished 8-6.

Congrats to the girls, CZ 1st place. Undefeated all day. Thanks to Max Chin who came with the CZ girl's team, managed the subs bench, and coached the girls during the day. It was much appreciated.

The girls headed off to interzones less than a week later. They made a good start but the girls were outsized and had some tough games. Unfortunately, the girls finished 4th in their pool. The girls played really well and were really able to drive the ball down to the main key, they displayed a positive attitude and had fun throughout the day.

Team members: Sakura Birrell, Olivia Clark, Scarlett Johnson, Pippi Lees, Almog Gal, Hailey Chin, Tirzah Soh, Sophia Liu, Olivia Ho

The boys played well at CZ. They started off with some surprisingly tough games in their pool. Unfortunately, they came 3rd as it came down to a 1-point GD. Heading into the knockout rounds, we won against Waiheke Primary. With such a big lead, the boys had fun and were taking long shots.

Unfortunately, our last game was close but Wesley just had the edge. A fun day was had despite the results. Thanks to Maihi who ran the subs bench for the boys. He did a fantastic job knowing who to place on the court according to their strengths and what was needed at each point in the game.

Team members:  Advaith Satheesh, Ben Oaks, Elysha llo, Evan Zhao, Isaiah IIo, Maihi Govind - Manager, Rawiri Bailey - Manager, Sam Gooch, Miller Ward

YEAR 8 SOCIAL EVENING

The Year 8 Halloween Social on October 31st was a night full of spooky fun and unforgettable memories! The hall was transformed with eerie decorations.

The dance floor stayed packed as everyone showed off their best moves to a mix of popular hits and classics.

The sweet station kept the energy high, and a photo booth captured the night's highlights. It was a frightfully fantastic event, leaving everyone with big smiles and stories to remember!

2025 HOMESTAY FAMILIES WANTED

We are seeking suitable homestay options for our incoming short-term international students from 1 Feb to 1 Mar 2025.

Our goal is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment where students can immerse themselves in the local culture and engage in meaningful cultural exchange. This presents a wonderful opportunity for our RI students and whānau to embrace global citizenship through understanding and appreciating cultural diversity.

Given their short stay, if you have space for two children, they would prefer to be in pairs and are comfortable sharing a room. The homestay rate will be $370 per child per week, including 3 meals a day (packed lunch) and daily transport to school in the mornings. The students will be dropped off home to you in the evenings so no need for pick-ups. You will also have a 24/7 support contact available should you require any assistance.

If you are currently a Year 7 family and are interested in this opportunity or would like more information, please get in touch with Yvonne Lee at [email protected]

FILL THE BLUES BUS – Let’s Help Families in Need This Christmas

This Christmas season, our school is excited to get involved with the Fill The Blues Bus campaign. We’re helping to collect non-perishable food items to support families in need across our region.

How Can You Help?

Starting Monday, 4 November, we’ll be collecting non-perishable food at school right through until Wednesday, 4 December. All the food will be donated to some amazing charities, including The Village Community Trust, South Seas, and Whakaora Kai.

If you’re keen to help, please start gathering food items and bring them to the boxes in the Ascot Ave foyer between 4 November and 4 December. Together, we can make a difference for families in need this Christmas
